2018 - 2019 Open Enrollment Information

Good evening families!

We want to make you aware of Open Enrollment which begins January 3 and runs through Friday, February 2. This is the only time to request a transfer from one school to another school within the district for the upcoming 2018-19 school year. This message is long and provides detail if you are interested in a transfer within the district.

If you wish to request a transfer you must complete a request form no later than Friday, February 2. Students currently on a transfer are automatically renewed and you do not have to do anything to keep your student at the school he/she is currently attending. Students entering 6th or 9th grade (unless you are at the Dual Language Academy of the Monterey Peninsula) will automatically roll over to the middle or high school in the learning community in which the student is currently attending. For example, if your child attends Los Arboles Middle School, your student will be rolled over to Marina High School, even if you do not reside in Marina. A letter with specific detail was mailed home in December to those currently on a transfer.

If you wish your student to return to the school nearest your residency, please immediately notify your school of residence so the district may plan accordingly. For example, if your student attends Los Arboles Middle School and you live in Monterey and want your student to attend Monterey High School, you must go to Monterey High and enroll your student with a proof of residency showing you reside in Monterey.

All requests will be considered and families will be notified by mail at the beginning of April for the following school year. Forms may be obtained at your school site, the District Office at 700 Pacific Street in Monterey or online at www.mpusd.net. Again, forms are due no later than Friday, February 2 to be considered for the upcoming 2018-19 school year.

¡Buenas noches familias!

Queremos comunicarles que la Inscripción Abierta comienza el 3 de enero y se extenderá hasta el viernes 2 de febrero. Esta es la única oportunidad para solicitar una transferencia de una escuela a otra dentro del distrito para el próximo año escolar 2018-19. Este mensaje es largo y proporciona detalles si usted está interesado en una transferencia dentro del distrito.

Si desea solicitar una transferencia, debe completar un formulario de solicitud a más tardar el viernes 2 de febrero. Los estudiantes actualmente en una transferencia, será renovada automáticamente y usted no tendrá que hacer nada para mantener a su estudiante en la escuela a la que asiste actualmente. Los estudiantes que van a ingresar al 6º o 9º grado (a menos que estén en la escuela Dual Language Academy of the Monterey Peninsula) automáticamente pasarán a la escuela secundaria o preparatoria en la comunidad de aprendizaje en la cual el estudiante asiste actualmente. Kinder students must turn 5 before September 1, in order to be enrolled into Kindergarten.

T/K students must turn 5 between September 2 and March 1, in order to be enrolled into an MPUSD T/K program.

It is the intent to offer TK at all school sites based on enrollment projections.  If enrollment projections do not reach a certain threshold at each school site, your child will be registered at a site closest to your residency.

All immunizations must be current including the 5 year immunizations.   All incoming Kindergarten physicals must be dated after February 5, 2016 to meet first grade admittance guidelines.

All school supplies are provided by Olson School. It is not necessary to send school supplies. If you would like to donate supplies, we will gladly accept them.

Olson School is located on the northern border in the city of Marina. Surrounded by pastures and an established neighborhood, Olson is less than a mile from the Pacific Ocean. A part of Monterey Peninsula Unified School District's Marina Learning Community, we join the Seaside and Monterey Learning Communities in providing a standards based education program.

Every day at Olson School, wonderful partnerships of students, staff, community volunteers and parents provide an outstanding, well-rounded, education for all students. Academic and behavior expectations are high, yet achievable. August 07, 2017 District Office Message

Parents and Guardians,

This summer, the district's Facilities, Maintenance and Operations department discontinued the use of Round Up and Truflon Ester for weed abatement. A new product called Natural Horticultural Vinegar that does not contain glyphosate is now being used. 

Please note that our 2017-18 yellow Emergency Cards were printed in June 2017 prior to the discontinued use of Round Up, Truflon Ester, and/or glyphosate products this summer. On the back side of the yellow Emergency Card parents were asked to check the line "I understand that the herbicide "Round Up Pro" or "Truflon Ester" may be applied on school grounds." This statement no longer applies.

Regular attendance is vital to your child's success. Please make every effort to send your child to school every day and on time. 

Olson has a dedicated staff who teach "bell to bell", making every minute count. When you pull your child out of class early, it disrupts his/her learning and interrupts the instruction in the classroom. 

Our goal is for every Olson Orca to graduate from high school and be career or college ready . Attendance counts!
