About Olson Elementary

Monterey Peninsula Unified School District (MPUSD) requires that all schools have an emergency plan on site. Olson School is in compliance with these regulations and currently practices earthquake, fire, and lock-down drills throughout the year.

If it becomes necessary to close a school before the end of the regular school day, every reasonable effort will be made to notify parents of students of the closure. At Olson, our primary responsibility is, of course, the safety and welfare of the students under our supervision. To this end, we would like to ask your assistance:

Please give your school-age children instructions in case they must be sent home from school because of a major emergency. The instructions should include a rearranged family meeting place in case of a separation and procedures in the event parents are not at home when the children arrive.

Emergency Procedures

In accordance with California law, the Governing Board, must review annually, district emergency procedure plans. The following procedures have been adopted by the Governing Board:

"It is the declared policy of the Governing Board of MPUSD to release pupils from school in the event of a disaster or emergency situation. During such an emergency, those students who provide their own transportation or walk to school will be expected to get home by the same method during an emergency. The District will transport those pupils who normally use the school bus."

How to Prepare at Home

Families are encouraged to establish major emergency family protection plans. The Pacific Bell phone directory has a very worthwhile survival guide. You may also contact our local fire department for further disaster preparedness information.
